The VDI profession and its many advantages are the stuff of dreams for many people: making a living from your passion, being your own boss, working at your own pace, being in tune with your personal life..
However, being a home-based sales assistant requires certain conditions to succeed. Here's a quick look at the prerequisites for becoming a home-based sales assistant.
1 - Agreeing to become a VDI entrepreneur
Making a living from door-to-door selling means first and foremost becoming your own boss. So you're going to have to create your own schedule, decide on your sales strategy, prioritise your actions and get organised without anyone telling you what to do on a daily basis. 2 - Be organised and rigorous
Being a home seller, whether as a supplement to your income or on a full-time basis, requires you to be organised and rigorous. You have to manage your schedule and appointments on your own, taking into account the availability of your customers.
The key is to create a real working environment for yourself (a room, an office area, etc.) as well as the right work tools (computer, diary, notebook, telephone, filing cabinets, etc.). Everything you need to perfect your organisation and guarantee your customers and hostesses the best possible service.
If you like to be independent and are well organised from the outset, working as a VDI could be just the thing for you.
3 - Work your network
To be a good door-to-door salesperson, you need to be sociable enough to maintain and grow your customer portfolio. So you need to take care of your network by talking to everyone around you: family, friends, work colleagues, etc. Any opportunity is a good one to talk about your business!
You also need to be comfortable speaking at sales meetings and advising your customers. A good home sales assistant is a sociable person who knows how to meet people and likes to be surrounded by them on a daily basis.
4 - Choosing the right home sales brand
Being a home seller means turning your passion into a job. If you really want to succeed as a home seller, choose a brand that suits you and that offers products you like. To be able to sell them, you need to like the brand and the products you offer and be convinced of their quality!
5 - Do the test
The best advice we can give you is to try it out. You can try out being a home-based sales assistant even if you have a permanent or fixed-term contract (unless you have a special clause). Just ask your employer if he or she agrees.
