Asserting your personality and standing out from the crowd
How do you find your style?
26 MARCH 2020
Having your own style means asserting your personality and standing out from the crowd.
But it can be hard to keep up with all the new fashion trends coming out every day, and all the different collections of clothes available on the market.
Elora gives you all the advice you need to find the clothing style that suits you!
1 - Take stock
Analyse and sort your wardrobe
First of all, take an interest in what you already have in your wardrobe. Fashion and your style evolve over time and you inevitably need to sort through your collection. Now's the time to do it!
Keep all the pieces you like and feel comfortable in. On the other hand, put aside all the clothes you no longer wear or that no longer fit. You can give them a second life by donating them to a charity, for example.
Once you've finished sorting, analyse all the items you're keeping: the number of trousers/jeans VS dresses and skirts, the shape of your tops, the dominant colours... and make a note of what you think is missing. This is a good starting point for defining your style.
Know your colour palette
To look your best, we advise you to establish your colour profile: in other words, study the palette of colours that suits you best according to your basic harmony: skin colour, eyes and hair.
To do this, we recommend you read our article dedicated to colorimetry.
Accept your morphology and make the most of it
Every woman's body shape is different and will remain so for the rest of her life, whether she gains or loses weight.
You cannot change your basic shape. For example, if you're an H-shaped woman, you can't hollow out your waist because that's the way your body is and you have to accept it!
We've written an article to help you work out your body type and dress accordingly.
All body shapes are beautiful and can be enhanced. So it's important to identify your body type, accept it and make the most of it. Every woman has assets to bring to the fore. You can get help from a personal stylist who will be able to show you off to your best advantage and help you find the style that suits you.
2 - Finding a fashion style that suits you
Once you've taken stock of your wardrobe, your colour profile and your body type, you can start to build your style.
Determine what you like and what suits you
Decide beforehand what kind of pieces you like, because we all know that not all women like to wear the same things.
If your style is trousers and jeans, go for it! It won't make you any less feminine. If, on the other hand, you're a big fan of flowing skirts and long dresses, don't force yourself to wear trousers and indulge yourself with pretty, floaty pieces. The key is to feel stylish and comfortable in your clothes.
Create a kit of basics
When you start to define your style, there's nothing better than relying on timeless basics. Basics go with everything, work with all your looks, can be worn with both smart and casual outfits and, above all, allow you to create different outfits with the same pieces.
Here are a few basic ideas: light blue jeans, a cotton t-shirt, a beige trench coat, etc
Find more original items
Once you have your collection of basics, you can start to let loose and choose more original pieces that will be the very essence of your style. Be careful, however, to choose clothes that you really like and that you're going to wear.
There are lots of prints, patterns, materials and shapes to give your looks a twist. You could, for example, go for a long, flowing dress with a paisley print for a bohemian look, black studded ankle boots for a rock look, or jogging-style trousers for a sporty chic effect.
Adapt your clothing style to the life you lead
Everyone's life is different. Some have office jobs that require more professional attire, while others need practical, more comfortable clothes to move around in.
So it's a good idea to adapt your clothing style to your life and your needs. Your wardrobe should include pieces for everyday wear, adapted to your pace of life, and evening pieces to wear when going out with friends or to a restaurant with your other half.
3 - Try on different looks
Finally, it's important to try on outfits and clothes to find out what really suits you. Finding your clothing style is not something you can do overnight, especially as it evolves with the years and your desires.
Wear "test" outfits for a day, either at work or at home, and work out whether you feel comfortable in your body. It may be that certain pieces are visually appealing but don't really suit you once you've worn them.
It's also worth taking advice from fashion professionals. Personal stylists or personal shoppers are your allies in finding the style that suits you.
