Clothing advice: choosing clothes to suit your body type
How do you dress for your body type?
03 JULY 2020
A, H or O-shaped, there are 6 types of morphology, each with its own characteristics that can be enhanced through clothing. How can you recognise your shape and make the most of your assets in all circumstances? Elora will help you make the best clothing choices.
A shapes
Many women have an A-shaped silhouette, with a rather small bust and rounder hips.
- When it comes to tops, boat-neck collars will give your shoulders more shape. You can also take advantage of low necklines to enhance your head carriage.
- Remember to wear clothes with large patterns on the top, to draw attention to your upper body rather than the bottom.
- Choose high-waisted trousers and skirts to show off your bust.
- Bootcut jeans and flared skirts are also great for A shapes.
H shapes
With a low waistline and equally wide hips and shoulders, the H-shape is easy to dress by playing with different volumes.
- Tunics and straight dresses are particularly well suited to your shape.
- Opt for low-waisted skirts and trousers.
- Don't wear your belt tightly around your waist, but rather loosely across your hips.
- If possible, wear your jacket half-open to enhance your bust.
- Avoid tight-fitting clothes and baggy shapes.
O-shaped shapes
If you have an O-shaped body, your curves will be easily accentuated by your different outfits.
- Choose flowing tops that reveal your curves without constricting them.
- You can opt for pretty V-necks or square collars.
- When it comes to dresses, choose straight ones or ones that are tied under the bust to hide the curves of your tummy. Long dresses and skirts look particularly good on you.
- Straight jeans will look best on you. Avoid trousers with large back pockets.
V shapes
You have pronounced shoulders, a slim waist and rather slender legs. These are all great assets!
- When it comes to tops, V-neck blouses and T-shirts will suit you to perfection. You'll also appreciate flowing tops that widen your hips.
- Show off your long, slender legs with trapeze skirts, for example. Trousers are also very fashionable, as you can wear anything.
- When it comes to dresses, choose shapes that cinch at the waist and flare out underneath.
X shapes
The X shape is often considered the ideal body shape. The figure is balanced, with hips and shoulders of equal width and a slim waist.
- Opt for slim-fitting tops that emphasise the waist.
- Choose high-waisted trousers and skirts to enhance your shape while accentuating your slim waist.
- For dresses, choose slim-fitting or body-hugging styles to delicately reveal your curves.
- Avoid clothes that are too wide or have a low waist.
Figure 8s
You have a luscious figure. Your hips and shoulders are the same width and you have a slimmer waist, with harmoniously distributed curves. At Elora, you'll find clothes in every style to suit your shape. Don't hesitate to ask our relooking coaches for advice and they will guide you in your choices.
- Opt for slim-fitting tops that will emphasise your waist while highlighting your bust.
- High-waisted trousers and skirts are ideal for figure 8s. You'll love straight jeans that don't emphasise the width of your thighs.
You can also wear strapless dresses.
