Develop your VDI performance!
5 tips from a top VDI!
22 FEBRUARY 2018
Are you a freelance home seller with Elora? Congratulations! You've chosen to take charge of your professional life and become your own boss. Being a VDI is great, but prospering and developing your network of customers is even better! Elora, the ready-to-wear home shopping specialist, reveals 5 tips for being a top independent home seller!
1) Tenacity
Every objective requires rigour and tenacity! To achieve your full potential as an Independent Door-to-door Salesperson (VDI), you need a number of ingredients:
- A good dose of organisation: to set up regular meetings with your network of customers; to canvass new prospects or follow up on "cold" customers; or to inform yourself about the VDI status. In short, create habits for yourself as an Independent Salesperson, just like when you were at school!
- Unwavering regularity: set yourself short-term deadlines, such as organising two home sales a week, and stick to them! Consistency is one of the fundamental keys to success.
- Perseverance: to cope with the "off" days (a home meeting without any big sales, last-minute cancellations, etc.), the ups and downs that mark the life of an entrepreneur / VDI such as yourself!
2) Boldness
Before, during or after a door-to-door sale, a good sales consultant needs to be bold enough to surprise her network of customers. An aesthetically pleasing invitation, an unexpected greetings card, a novel way of getting in touch, a pleasant experience during a home sale... every stage of the relationship feeds this foundation of boldness that will win over your customers.
3) Knowing how to communicate
With others, but also with yourself, because a good VDI is also a salesperson who questions herself and improves her conversational posture. You'll be a top-class VDI as soon as your knowledge allows you to reach a threshold of unconscious skills. Read (our article on 5 books to become a VDI star!), ask questions, watch videos on VDI status, take an interest in products, draw up a list of arguments and counter-arguments... in short, get ready to communicate in a relaxed and natural way.
4) Know-how to advise
Be "tailor-made" when it comes to advising a potential customer. One garment will not necessarily fit all. Be precise, observant, empathetic and give a sincere answer to your interlocutors. As each case is different, don't over-anticipate your home sale, as the unexpected is never far away! Similarly, don't be too quick to judge a customer; get into the habit of letting them express themselves first, so that you can identify their needs and expectations.
5) Love your job
And be very enthusiastic! If you're not totally convinced by the product you're presenting, you can be sure that your customers won't be either! Our Elora tip: try on the clothes, touch the materials, find out about the season's fashion trends(check out our blog post on Spring-Summer 2018 trends) and liven up your sales pitch. Be careful not to be overly demonstrative, but opt for a more honest approach, using your own words and your own feelings.
