Opening up to new horizons with VDI status
VDI jobs, taking charge of your life
19 SEPTEMBER 2018
The start of the new school year is almost always synonymous with small changes and big decisions. Well-rested after the summer holidays, we enter this period with a certain dynamism, often prompting us to review our diet, take up new activities, but also to reconsider our professional ambitions.
What if the autumn was the ideal time to take charge of your life, open up to new horizons and seize the opportunity to work in the world of fashion? If you're attracted by the idea of working as a VDI, but are hesitating to take the plunge, here's some information that should motivate you!
What exactly is VDI status?
VDI stands for Vendeur à Domicile Indépendant. This job involves selling the products or services of a company with which you have a contract. As an independent home seller, you benefit from a special status: VDI status. Even if you are not an employee of the company (but self-employed), you are entitled to social security cover.
VDI status is very easy to sign up for. Your company takes care of most of the formalities. This activity allows you to sell any type of product or service, except financial or property services. At Elora, for example, you are a sales consultant in the women's ready-to-wear sector.
There are two types of VDI sales contract
The commissioned VDI contract: your activity consists of selling the products of the company you are commissioned by, and your remuneration is based on your turnover. We recommend this type of contract for building up a large stock of products, particularly ready-to-wear or lingerie.
The VDI buyer-seller contract: under this contract, you buy the company's products at preferential rates, which you then resell within the limit of the prices recommended by the company. Your remuneration is the margin between the purchase price and the selling price.
Find out about the average monthly income of a VDI, depending on the type of contract you choose.
How do you choose a VDI job?
Technically, there's nothing to stop you choosing the company of your choice for your VDI job. You can work in an environment that appeals to you and sell any type of product that suits your aspirations.
However, it is advisable to choose a company that is a member of the FVD (Fédération de la Vente Directe). Companies like Elora that are members of this foundation undertake to comply with the legal provisions in force concerning direct selling.
You can also choose a company based on the type of home-based job you want to do, the amount of travel involved and, above all, the pay package. Depending on the VDI contract you sign, your pay could be different, allowing you tosupplement your salary or even work full-time.
What are the advantages of VDI status?
It can't be said often enough that there are many advantages to being a VDI!
Independence and a comfortable lifestyle
Independence offers great flexibility. The contract with the company for which you sell the products does not impose any targets or geographical areas to cover. So you're free to organise your days and weeks as you see fit.
If you're asking yourself the question " How can I make a bit of extra money at the end of the month? then becoming a VDI could well be the ideal answer. Read the testimonials of our Elora consultants!
If you have a little less time to devote to this activity, you can take a break - only the income from direct sales will decrease. On the other hand, if you decide to devote time and energy to it, working as a VDI can be very lucrative, since most of the time your income is linked to your turnover: the more you sell, the more you earn.
Accessibility and career prospects in home selling
Direct selling is open to everyone. The company you are going to work for can even offer you training before you start, on the products you are going to sell, or at any time to improve your skills. So you can quickly gain skills and experience. Elora, for example, offers its new sales advisers a personalised e-learning training programme in 8 key stages.
